A Heat Loss Survey is a non-intrusive examination of a property in which the surveyor accurately records the size of each room and its precise fabric and method of construction.
Your heat loss surveyor will enter the recorded data into a bespoke Heat Loss calculator, which will identify:
- Heat loss of each room from its fabric (measured in Watts)
- Heat loss of each room via ventilation (also measured in Watts)
- How much heat you current heating system is able to apply to each room (where the flow temperature of the system is set to 70°C)
- How your existing heating system would cope with a lower flow temperature.
We are particularly interested in lowering the temperature at which your central heating system operates. This is because:
- All heating systems operate more efficiently at lower temperatures
- Air Source & Ground Source heating systems must operate at flow temperatures of 50°C or below
To qualify for a government grant towards your Low Carbon Heating system you must have a Heat Loss Survey completed.
At Brimstone Energy, we used the Heat Loss Survey as the starting point in a broader customer relationship.
We will advise you of the incremental steps which you can take to increase the thermal efficiency of your home, starting with the easiest and most cost-effective to implement.
We’ll be with you every step of the way, from Survey to Heat Pump Installation Aftercare.

An example

In this example, you can see that the existing heating system is inadequate. All (except one) of the radiators are too small.
