According to MINTEL, 54% of UK adults say that thinking about climate change is making them feel overwhelmed.

There will be a lot of aspects to this. Perhaps it is simply the size of the task. Or that one person amongst 8.2 billion on Planet Earth feels so insignificant. Or that because it has been widely reported that China is opening up new coal fired power stations, and so anything we do back here in Britain feels pointless. Or simply because the news narrative around this topic is so negative.

Well, we have news for you. News is designed to sell, and nothing sells like bad news.

Would it surprise you to learn that China installed 213 Giga Watts of Solar Power in 2023? To put this in context, the total installed capacity in the UK in 2023 was 74 Giga Watts. That is total, including Nuclear, Gas, Coal, Wind, Solar, Biomass, Tidal and any other form of electricity generation that we have.

So what can we take from these two statistics.

Firstly, the challenge is massive. Correct. Secondly, remarkable progress is being made across the world. And the Chinese, despite what you might think from Main Stream Media reporting, are at the forefront of the challenge. Way ahead of the UK.
