Never stop evolving

During a recent trip to Syon Park in London, we were struck be some timeless messages provided by the setting and the landscape itself. Notably that we must never stop evolving.

Syon Park is the London home of the Dukes of Northumberland, who acquired the estate in 1603. But its history goes back much further. Syon Abbey stood on the site until its dissolution by Henry VIII. This Abbey of the Bridgettine Order was by some estimates the wealthiest in England at the time of its destruction.

The history of Syon Park is the history of England. Neighbouring Sheen Palace was host to the Royal Court of Edward I in 1299 and home for many years to Richard II. The site of Sheen Palace was rebuilt into what is now Richmond palace in 1498. Syon Park describes itself “one of the last great houses of London” and it truly is a window into a distant world.

Except that, as with all great country estates, Syon park has to evolve or it will wither and die. It perhaps shouldn’t surprise us, therefore, that Syon Park hosts one of London’s biggest rapid charging hubs. With 14 150kW chargers, Instavolt’s hub at Syon park is a standard bearer for what is possible.

So we have this interesting juxtaposition of Ancient and Modern.

Never stop evolving

We can hold onto all that is sacred to us and adopt cutting edge technologies at the same time. The history of our country, the history of Syon Park tells us that nothing lasts forever. There is no reason to hold onto an old technology just because that is what we are familiar with. We as a nation must embrace better more modern technology.

As this article is being written, Iran has just exchanged missiles with Israel. We must acknowledge the fragility of oil supplies, and the effect that a shortage in supply will have on every one of us. Moving to an electrified economy brings many benefits, not least the reduction in our reliance on imported oil, which is extracted from some of the world’s most troubled regions.

Syon Park teaches us that the world constantly evolves and changes. Even the Kings and Queens of England were subject to a changing world. We can either embrace the changing environment and thrive, or try to pretend that the realities of the world somehow won’t effect us.
